Poor old DD2 has fractured her wrist.

Ironically, after all the falls she has had this summer, and DH saying that he could see her breaking something before long, she didn't do it falling off a pony.We had been for a hack, done some jumping and she was jumping the course on foot while I pottered about. She fell and whacked her wrist on a pole as she went. She was awake because of the pain last night so I took her to hospital this morning and they thought it was just bruised, but x rayed it just in case. The nurse was really surprised that it was fractured.

It is a buckle fracture and she has it in a splint for 3 weeks and no rough sport for 6 weeks.I don't know what she'll do with herself as the longest she has ever not ridden for is 1 week.Sad

oh no, what bad timing and bad luck! Lots of stable management practice?

frostyfingers · 13/09/2013 13:20

Oh Mirage, how ironic is that?! Hopefully her young healthy body will heal quickly, I hope she's not in too much pain or too cross. At least it's now and not in the holidays - is it her writing hand?

Lovesswimming · 13/09/2013 16:44

Oh no Sad. Time will go quickly and she'll then forget about how frustrating it was. It happens so easily and then other times they have big falls and not a scratch!

CMOTDibbler · 13/09/2013 16:47

Oh no! Typical though after bouncing through her falls so well.

Dh broke a finger and his elbow last week lungeing dpony . That'll teach him to check the lunge line for knots.

frostyfingers · 13/09/2013 19:00

That sounds very painful Cmot - I'm lunging dhorse every other day and on the occasions when he decides he's had enough and zooms off I'm afraid I just let go, as soon as he realises the lunge line is snaking about after him he stops dead. I have an overwhelming fear of getting my fingers tangled up and torn off, which is a bit silly really.

CMOTDibbler · 13/09/2013 19:06

What happened was that dh let go when dpony had a hissy, but there was a knot in the line and it caught on his finger as it came through. He's fine though - has just made the most of it this week Hmm

Mirage · 13/09/2013 20:23

Oh CMOT that sounds incredibly painful.Sad

Thanks for your commiserations and good wishes, she isn't in too much pain ,just very tired after being awake most of last night.I will have to exercise dpony as she is looking a bit tubby and I daren't leave her.Plus a couple of friends have offered to come over and ride for us too.

Thank goodness it wasn't during the holidays or before camp though, camp is the highlight of their year.

Just goes to show its not the riding that's dangerous, it's the falling Grin. It's still a riding-related injury though so we'll let her claim the kudos Grin.

PoshPenny · 14/09/2013 21:02

Is it very wrong of me to admit to allowing my daughters to ride with their casts on, but only after week 4 of a 6 Week cast, and no jumping or fast stuff... we have had 3 broken wrists, only one non horse related.

Gilbertus · 14/09/2013 21:07

Poor your dd. Hope it heals quickly.

Mirage · 14/09/2013 22:01

PoshPenny,no,I don't think you were wrong to do that, both DH and I have come to the same conclusion and all being well, after her visit to the fracture clinic in 3 wks, will let her ride dpony only in walk. She has only ever fallen off dpony once and falls over her own feet almost daily.Grin

It has been a looong day.DH has had to give them both a talking to about hauling each other about by the arms, fighting ect.DD1 rode both ponies with DD2 shouting 'shorten your reins, heels down',and I had a potter around the field on DD1's new pony who is 13.3.DD2 took a photo of me and I look ridiculous, far too tall for him,so God knows what people will think of me hacking 13h dpony out.Shock
