What weight?

We are taking delivery of a new pony on Friday and can't wait! She is primarily for youngest DD (aged 4) but wondered if DD1 would be able to hack her out with me occassionally? What do wise mumsnetters think please?

Pony is 11.2 Welsh Section B, DD1 is 12 yr old skinny minnie who has a beautiful quiet seat.

I should think she'll be fine - I'm not sure what the limit is, but they are generally pretty sturdy. I occasionally ride my dpony who is a chunky 12.2 Sec B cross something, although not in public as it has to be bareback and I'm too frightened to be caught falling off!

I don't think that would be a problem at all.Welsh ponies were bred to carry farmers up the mountainsides,and I might be wrong but I was always told to go by a stone a hand,so DD1's 13hh,who I sometimes ride,should be able to take 13 stone.[I don't weigh anywhere near that just in case I get jumped on,but am 5ft 8 so look a bit silly].

Thanks Frosty, I'm guessing pony will let us know if she not happy! Will only be in walk around the common for 20 minutes or so.

Thanks Mirage, will see how she gets on. She did have a 13.2 of her own until last year when we sadly had her pts. We were going to get something bigger but DD1 is now really busy with school and says she doesn't feel ready for her own at the moment so I doubt she will do much with pony anyway.

For the occasional hack out i think she's fine. Skinny 12yo's weigh nothing !

Shouldn't be a problem - at competitive yards small adults ride the welshies. Don't forget that it is mostly adults which ride the Sec As in open classes so your DD will be fine. Your pony will make it clear if it's not happy with this arrangement!
