Viewing A Pony Tomorrow

Hello!

Am going to view a mare tomorrow. 1st pony for my DC's aged 4 & 7. 11.2hh, coloured, am assured it is lovely and sweet natured. First we have looked at so quite excited!
I was knowledgeable and experienced but I've been out of that scene for so long I feel like I have forgotten how to do it all. What do I need to look for aside from the usual? (passports are something I have no experience of).

I really want to get it right, she looks like a lovely little mare.

Any tips would be gratefully received!

TIA

with passports, just check it is HER passport! Check the markings. check previous lameness and lami history. Make sure she is actually happy with the children and make sure she goes off the lead rein ok if that is what you want her for.

Thank you! will let you know how we get on.

Good luck Minn, don't fall in love at first sight!

Make sure that you see someone else ride it. Don't go thinking you want to buy it, be ultra critical (very difficult, I know). Ask if you can have it on a two week or month trial. Make sure that you see it being caught, groomed, feet picked and tacked up - I wouldn't touch a horse that came out of the stable all tacked up and ready, I would assume that it was a bugger to catch or something.

Thanks everyone, it's all coming back to me now Smile
Was having a crisis of confidence. Going tonight so if I have any niggles I will walk away..

Saw the mare, she is a sweetie, all went well. After some digging this morning found out she has had a sad past, she's only 8 so hope she passes the vetting and we can give her a lovely home Smile

My DD keeps sighing and smiling Grin

Sooo exciting. Fingers crossed for the vet check. Are you going for the full 5star or a cheaper option? I just got the vet to check heart, wind and eyes when I bought DD's pony.

Callisto sorry for the late reply - she arrived today and she is lovely Grin. she seems very settled already, and very easy going. I think my DD will be up at 6am tomorrow!!
We didn't have her vetted in the end..have her insured now and looking forward to getting to know her Smile

Fantastic! Keep us posted about DD's exploits

Will do Trebles, still not ridden her yet, now have leathers and irons small enough and no. of a good saddle fitter as the 3 we have don't fit!
Am amazed how DD has taken to poo picking in the pouring rain. This is a child who moans about EVERYTHING. She was a bit peeved to see dpony after I had attacked it with a solocomb today though. "oh mummy, what HAVE you done to my ponyyyyyy" I think she looks very smart. Im sure it will grow out & soften in a week Confused Blush.
