I know you all understand and I can't share anywhere else at the moment (in case it falls through I would utterly gutted if it did ).

Long story short, I've just managed to get DH to agree to let my buy a very, very nice Welsh Section D, 3 year old boy. I go to see him tomorrow. It's a one in a million opportunity and I am quite literally, beside myself with excitement. I want to drive over there with my cheque book now but I can't

Breeder has said I get first refusal and she actually wants him to come to me, but I'm terrified it'll all go horribly wrong!

Please hold my hand!

Sasamunde he's bred by a friend of mine (so of known origin and background, IYSWIM?) and is already a serious contender for the Royal Welsh in July and he also has HOYS potential - his relatives have won there. of course, I know bugger all about showing so will have to learn PDQ

Will post a link tomorrow as I don't want to out myself, or let anyone know of my interest until it's a done deal in case it all goes horribly wrong, but he's black with 4 white socks and white blaze. He's fab. :)

Sounds absolutely lovely but if you are not very knowledgeable on showing it might be worth taking a friend along for a second opinion on the quality of the pony and its suitability for HOYS. Also don't let the breeder stress you into too quick a buy, do get a vetting done!

Sounds exciting - look forward to seeing photo.

However if he is 3 now what are your plans for him? Is he still entire and if so do you plan to geld him? You say he is a serious contender for the Royal Welsh - presumably the breeders have already been showing him in-hand. Does he have a medal yet? Will you be showing him in-hand yourself this year or just turning him away so he can be backed later this year to ride next year? When you say HOYS do you mean in the Cuddy or as an open ridden D?

I can now give details as I bought him this morning. :) Butkin He's already gelded & he's won 1st Champion or reserve champion at every show he's been to (fairly big ones). Booboostoo - a friend of mine is a Welsh judge and knows the horse, plus I "know tidy confirmation" as I've been around the horse world for far too long a while, and have knowledgeable friends who show, and a vet who shows horses herself. :)

He's from a very good, well known local breeder (good friend for several years) and her stock is very, very good. The plan is to show him this year at the RW - she'll give me a hand and we have an experienced person to actually run/show him. We're just going to have fun with him, TBH, as he's got a home for life and we want to bring him on slowly, so he won't be backed until next year and certainly won't be rushed. He'll be fully vetted.

One day, we'll hopefully qualify for HOYS in open ridden D, but TBH, if we don't ever win a show, it doesn't matter, because he's not actually being bought as a "show pony" for his showing potential, he's been bought as a versatile fun riding horse that we can have as a family friend.

I'm just blown away that I've had the opportunity to get him. Will post pics when I get some. :)

Well done Quiet Tiger sounds like you love him and will have loads of fun. We've got a Welsh A and two Welsh Bs (the 4yo will be shown as a SHP this year) and know what a great time you can have with them. We don't go to the Royal Welsh (too far from us in Suffolk) but may venture over your way to NPS Summer Champs this year.

Just spent ages watching him on the stud website! He is gorgeous - lucky you. They are only 25 miles from me - pity they are giving up.

Lovely!! Make sure you take someone ultra experienced with you to rw!! The atmosphere is electric and horses are properly on their toes!! They take some handling and every year at least one person gets dragged across the arena!! Still fab fab fab show!!! Enjoy it and your new boy!! I love the welsh :)

He arrived this morning! I can't believe how chilled out he was when he came off the lorry! He walked down the ramp, we put him in the field with my other cob, he went "Oh, this is where I'm going to live then? Right-oh" and started stuffing his face!!

DH, who claims to hate horses but doesn't really, because I've caught him cuddling them when he thinks I'm not looking has said "he's quite good looking" - which from a dairy farmer is accolade indeed! Grin
