Equine dentist

Just had a new equine dentist out to do our three. Came recommended by our showing producer and he was great. Previous dentists (including our vet who does dentistry) had just used hand rasps. This guy had electric tools with various handles and heads that could reach easily right to the back to target specific problems. He'd trained in USA and it really showed as all the latest technology.

The horses were very well behaved with him and he got us feeling up their mouths to show the before and after on particular issues. The connemara, in particular, should be much better off now and can't wait to ride them again!

I don't have to pay an equine dentist for this, my vet has the electric toothbrush kit and it is fantastic. He comes out and does my two, plus their vaccs for an "all in one" price and he's so good with the horses it's all very calm and stress free.

Sounds like the last visit from my equine dentist, it seems things have become very technical all of a sudden, much to the delight of all the horses who were never really keen on the hand rasp!

Our man charged us 35 pounds per horse and he was about 20 mins+ with each one. He brought his own generator which made life easier and took off the tartar before starting with the electric toothbrushes.

We've already seen that the Sec B is eating better - not letting anything drop out of his mouth now and with a better chewing action.

They are amazing pieces of kit, it's a wonder really that it's taken so long to evolve. It is a much kinder and less "vigorous" way of doing it too.
