wormer advise

Hi im collecting our new pony next fri and was thinking that i would worm him on his first day but on looking there are so many different brands with a big price difference, just after advice really on which one to go for as im not really sure, thankyou x

sorry posted too sonn. Do Panacur guard for 5 days. The worming programme i linked to is pretty simple and easy to understand.

Before you worm you need to find out what it has been wormed with before, and when. Some wormers remain in the system and are stored in the fat cells for the full 13 weeks and you shouldn't worm again until it's due as you will overdose. Why not get it worm counted and just treat what it shows up. If you poo pick regularly, your paddock will be fine.

You may want to find out if he even HAS any worms. You can get a test done for not much more than the wormer, and if he doesn't have any worms, you don't need to give him anything. My horses haven't actually had any worms for two years now, so no wormer for them!

Doing it this way also keeps the parasites from getting immune to the drugs. You can ask your vet if they can do this.
