my little girl is mad about animals - particularly ponies
can anyone recommend any DVDs/books for younger children?(not Disney or My Little Pony though) - seems quite hard to find anything suitable

How old is she?

I The Dcs used to adore the , they were such sweet and funny stories and also showed correct tack and pony care so they didn't irritate the hell out of a horsey mum!.
I don't think they show them any more but I expect you can track down some DVDs and books on Amazon or something you can't have mine.
There seems to be quite a lot on youtube to be going on with anyway.

She's 4

and thanks for the suggestion about Starhill ponies - I'll have a look to see if I can find any DVDs with that title

yes Starhill Ponies is supposed to be good. Also, when my daughter (5) is at her best friend's house they seem to watch a dvd called Saturday Stables all the time

homebaked · 30/11/2011 15:46

thanks - just had a look at Saturday Stables on amazon - it looks good for younger ones so I'm going to check it out

She may like the Top Trumps Horses and Ponies card game.

Also look out for the Pony Camp Diaries series of books aimed at younger readers. My DD particularly enjoyed Sophie and Shine at that age.

Sheltie the Shetland. We loved Sheltie the Shetland! If you are anywhere near Colchester I have a real Shetland that needs a new friend......

Thanks for those ideas - I've never heard of the Pony Camp Diaries or Sophie and Shine.
Ahh Sheltie the Shetland! Sadly we are miles away but I hope you find a new friend soon

Also try Katy's Exmoor.

Homebacked if you put Pony Camp Diaries into Amazon you'll find the range - lots of drawings and it is written in diary style so easy to read in chunks. Sophie and Shine is one of main and is £3.99.

Also have a look on Amazon for the Pony Mad Princess series of books - loved by little girls!
