What wormer do you recommend ?

Previously, we've just gone along with the other liveries, but the person who has organised it before has fallen out with all but one person (this has been coming a long time as she is a pita who likes everything her own way), so I get to choose my own.

Any reecommendations ?

Depends which worms you wish to target, are you all still going to worm on the same day as that gives better protection?

I use westgate labs wormer reduced program using worm counts to see if I need to worm and worming for specific worms at certain times of year.

I buy them from wormers.co.uk which seems reasonable and tells you which worms each wormer targets, don't think any specific brands are better than others it's the active ingredient that's important iyswim.

Yes, all worming together which meant it was a bit of a scramble. We went for Equest Pramox after a bit of internet research as it was broad spectrum

You need to have a worm count through one of the labs that will then tailor your programme around your horse and the results. Its quite important nowadays to not over use wormers, worms are getting more and more resistant.
Alternatively, speak to a qualified person in your local tackshop, you need different wormers at different times of year.

We are with Intelligent Worming. They do egg counts, devise the programme and send everything through the post as it's needed. It's a bit more expensive than just buying wormers and egg count kits, but I've saved quite a lot of money as three of our horses haven't needed worming since winter. It's great that I don't have to keep tabs on it, it's one less ball to keep my eye on.

Egg counts don't pick up encysted worms, tapeworm or bots so you still need a good broad spectrum wormer in the winter. The best thing at our yard though is that the owners poo pick every field every day. I think poo picking is the most important part of your worm control.

I'd like to do Intelligent Worming, but we are obliged to worm on schedule.

We are responsible (along with the two other liveries in the field) for poo picking, so it only gets done twice a week tbh. Wish it was more often. We went to look at a yard this week where the paddocks are poo picked twice a day ! It was a beautiful place

They do a yard programme, if you all sign up, so that your horses are on the same schedule but only the horses with worm burdens get wormed (apparently 80% of worms are carried by 20% of horses). Might be worth seeing what the other liveries think?
