Painting pony pink

Hi
When I first started visiting "the tack room" I heard on a thread about somebody painting / dying their horse pink
Just wondering how you achieved this and whether it washed out easily.
I'm doing a sponsored ride and the theme is PINK, so was considering colouring Dponies white bits pink.
TIA

Yes it was me! I put a few bottles of cochineal in a bucket of water, at first the look was more 'skinned alive' than the pretty pastel pink I'd imagined but it was better once sponged off then toned down with lilac glitter.

He was pink for ages and ages though. And I should have worn gloves!

Ah-thanks for the tips!!

Grin at "skinned alive".

Would something like this be better? (As long as you don't apply it on a windy day, whilst standing next to someone else's prize show horse ha ha.) Looks like it's sparkly too.

Oh no, maybe not sparkly, just the shop is called glitterstore. Oh well, at least it washes out (Mitchy take note for future reference Grin)

nooo, double nooo - do not paint your ponies pink, buy glitter or anything else like it - think all hedgerow colours only Grin [old fart emoticon]

D'you think there's a Farrow and Ball colour chart for painting your noble steed? Grin

theweescowlyone · 03/05/2011 23:14

Yes, surely it has to be tasteful. [prim]

I wouldn't!! How about lots of pink fluorescent gear? Dress in pink? But dye? I really wouldn't! Grin (although I did once use a new whitening spray on a pony right before a showing class and had to go into the ring with a purple pony!)

MitchiestInge · 04/05/2011 09:30

oh I really want to dye that pony again now, sharer would kill me though, she still harbours hopes of showing and competing him - can you do coloured classes if you are more unusually coloured than usual?

dartmoor is black so a bit limiting unless we sprayed him, horse would actually kill me (bolts if you even try to pin a rosette on him Hmm) - for all his behavioural issues that pony at least doesn't take himself too seriously. He liked being pink!

Pixel · 04/05/2011 20:21

What's the betting that if you checked the rules for coloured classes, they wouldn't actually specify which 'colours' were allowed? Wonder if it would stand up in court? Grin
