Dpony continues to be a gorgeous, ever willing, impeccably behaved member of our family

Having been trotting over poles nicely, ds asked if he could jump.

So, we put the jumps down to cross poles on the lowest hole and went for it this morning. After a few walks round the course, we trotted, and pony popped them beautifully. Ds sat really well, and thought it was the best thing ever. Not bad for a pair of 4 year olds really

Think jumping is going to be the next thing that DD asks to do.........which I am nervous about

We don't (yet) have use of a school / proper jumps, so her first encounter would be a log out hacking.

DD has a set of polyblocks and some plastic poles in our field.

Also have just got out the dressage markers to make an arena in the field. Makes giving her instructions much easier!

Course, we then had a visit from the 'falling off fairy' yesterday. DS was soo excited to show dh, and it was all going well till dpony decided to do a huge jump (I got a photo as it happens - on profile), and ds wobbled off after. He wasn't too worried though.

My in hand work is getting better with pony too - but I am really going to have to start doing some non horse running as I was seriously puffed out yesterday

CMOT - taking roan to Pony Club Thursday and then DD is having her first go at Polo Rally on Sunday with him. Trying to find things to do with him as he isn't the most enthusiastic jumper but is very safe.

Palomino just been entered for BSPS Winter Champs at Addington. May go to Trinity Park (Ipswich) for local BSPS area show for awarm up first.

Just having to plan what County Shows we're entering - already put him in for Suffolk Show - our main aim of the year.

Unfortunately young ponies do tend to put in over-large leaps when they start jumping. You might find it useful to lunge him over jumps so he can practice judging the height and finding his stride before your ds starts getting too ambitious! I also used to find it was good for 'de-spooking' them for strange jumps and scary fillers, thus helping to avoid the giant leaps and flying children. Or me as it was back then).

A couple of the older children (there is a 13 year old who must weigh 5 stone dripping wet - she is teeny) are going to jump him for a little bit each weekend to help him get things sorted. They also give pony a chance to canter - which of course ds wants to do too...

I haven't sorted out lunging as I can't hold anything in my left hand - am threatening DH that he will have to learn. Might have a go at loose schooling though.

Need to sort out my ringcraft lessons next !

Oh yes sorry, forgot about your hand. Lol at ds wanting to canter, I hope you are a fast runner!

I've never even succeeded in running fast enough to get the shetland to canter but she was a driving pony so she only knows how to trot really really fast!
