Selling up :-( Pony for sale

Hi all,

After lots of tears and thoughts I have decided to sell up and concentrate on my family life. Think I have a buyer for my horse but need a buyer for daughter's pony. She is 17yrs old, 13.2hh bay mare, ex JA pony but we have only really schooled and hacked since we got her as daughter is a novice. We've had her 18months and she is an angel. 3yr old handles her daily on the ground and also rides out on lead rein. Pony has been known to buck with a new/experienced rider but not done for ages and NEVER with the small ones. Comes complete with tack (bridle is only 6months old) and a full range of rugs (saddle is currently on loan from a friend but will see if she will sell it at my cost), buyer very welcome to the rubber matting and hay bar out of her stable too if wanted. Prone to laminitus but not a problem if muzzled when needed -new muzzle also included.

£1,000 or very near offer - we're in Surrey.

Heartbreaking sale, no time wasters please.

would love hay bars but can't afford stable at moment so bit pointless

Please don't use the "no timewasters" line. Anyone who is serious wants to take their time and make sure the pony is right for them. Just because it turns out not to be the right one for them, doesn't make them a "timewaster". In fact, if you love this pony at all - be very fucking suspicious of anyone turning up with a trailer and an envelope full of cash!

I would have thought posting here that 'no timewasters' is superfluous. Xmas Hmm

When I've read it in adds before it implies (at least to me) that the person wants to get rid of whatever is for sale as soon as possible.

Dear god, what's wrong with you all? I posted no timewasters ad I know there are a few around who like to ride other people's horses with no intention of buying them. This is a hard sale for us, there is an 11 year old daughter in the process who will have to ride for people interested, I do not want her upset for people who have no interest in offering the pony a decent home, of course people should be certain before they buy anything. WE are in no hurry to sell this much loved pony but at the same tim eI do not want my daughter put through the upset of riding her/seeing her ridden by people that just want a day out!

People do come out and ride for fun........like they do with cars and test driving. OP simply says she doesn't want that-understandably.

People DO waste time when horses (and cars) are involved!
Nobody wants to waste their days watching strangers riding their horses for free then vanishing, or else sending a million emails with no intention of viewing!

Maybe you would be better off letting your local riding stable sell your pony for you. Maybe less painful that way and they would probably know of people looking to buy.

Poor OP. This has obviously been a very hard decision for her, and obviously doesn't want the process made any harder.

I'm really not having a go at OP despite what some may think. I've bought horses and sold them - I know the process. I know how hard it is to find the right one and tbh I'd be put off viewing one with that byline because I'd think they'd be "rushing" me to make a decision and couldn't wait to get rid of it. :(

I personally think it's an aggressive stance to take in an ad, but each to their own.

Thanks to those of you that have offered your support. Quick update - we have found a yard about 10mins from where we are now where we can keep them on full grass livery, not the way I've kept my horses before but I'm sure we will all adapt. It gives me the free time I desperately need but means we get to keep our much loved girls :-)

That's a great outcome, am pleased for you. Moving to grass livery too (DIY/part) and though it's not ideal time of year, like you, think we will adapt. At least one of ours is used to living out over winter.

Have a really long shopping list of essentials though :(

I have LOADS of stuff for sale (electric fencing etc) shout me if you want a price for anything. Will be reasonable as just don't need it and have no storage space at home.

Yes please to price for fencing! Can hook to mains and will have to divide space sometimes (want to make separate jumping bit if possible). Most stuff not that postable, like storage bins and feed bowls and barrow etc, didn't appreciate stuff we had use of before would go.

Rats have started getting through plastic bins too :(

Will see what I have got, I think I have about 40 5ft fence posts plus connectors and a brand new energiser which can run off car battery or 4 D-batteries. Have got barrows, loads of feed bins etc.

Why don't you PM me with an idea of where you live and I will find out how much a courier would cost to send the lot! Would be happy to reduce item costs to help with courier, need to get rid and would be happy for it to go to someone who will appreciate a good deal :-)

I've recently been described as a timewaster, and was very hurt by it! All I did was go to see a really nice horse, that just wasn't right for me, I rode for 15 minutes and just knew I would bore the poor horse. I saw it once, and said no straight away! (Feel better for getting that off my chest!)

Lisa, what a fantastic result! Our big girl is grass livery, out all the time, and she's absolutely fine! In fact, all year live out is now one of my criteria for my horse as so much cheaper and less hassle!

LisaD, I know that your pony is now not for sale however I have an 8 year old and might be looking to share a pony if you have considered that? I am in Surrey, an experienced horse owner myself so come armed with knowledge, experience and care...let me know if it might be a consideration for you? X

Hi spamspam I have a 11h3 pony and looking for a sharer for him. He is in Rusper at the moment but if i can get someone to help with costs i will move him to Surrey as its nearer etc.My ds does ponyclub etc on him but he is so ill at the moment the pony is not doing at lot apart from being lunged to keep him ticking over.let me know if you are intrested. My 9 Year old niece has ridden him and dosnt look bit on him and she is very tall for her age. Let me know if you are intrested.
