I dare not confess Confused

Darling Boy is kept at livery at the most amazing yard I have ever found. It's actually better than having him at home as the yard owners are lovely and an amazing font of knowledge.

Anyway, a little coloured cob colt came to the yard (sort of rescueish, bit of a long story that I can't really go into, sorry). Yesterday we gave him a tail wash as it was awful. And the most godawful thing I have ever seen happened.

He seemed very sensitive round his dock so we started to very very gently comb out the area with a wide toothed come. Have to stress that we really were incredibly gentle, but the whole area was so matted that we couldn't get to the skin to see what the problem was.

And the end of his tail sloughed off. In our hands. It was so matted that the skin had pulled apart and caused an infection. Poor, poor little boy :(

So I bought him off his 'owner' for absolute peanuts. Today we gave him a full bath and discovered that he really is quite lovely underneath. Very well behaved now he is out of pain. He has seen a vet and is being treated. He now has a lovely deep bed, rugs and is going to be as well looked after as I can possibly do.

And I am now the proud owner of a potentially very lovely looking coloured show cob Grin

Good luck, and well done for giving him a chance! Fingers crossed that he comes through and is the lovely boy you're hoping for

Oh bless you. Thats brilliant. Poor boy. He sounds like our sort of project. Good for you. I hope you reported his owner to the RSPCA/ILPH?! We rescued some shetlands once from amad woman we sort of knew. When we got them home, trimmed their feet down by six inches and weaned the six year old!! We discovered that several of them were nearly crippled from having overgrown feet whilst growing, they were all wild and that she had bred them all from a stallion with a deformed foot. We didn't call the RSPCA but really wished we had when we discovered that she had been out and bought herself a horse!

Thank you :)

The vet has been today. He has been checked over thoroughly, microchipped, started his vacs and his passport sorted.

I have called him Hector's April Fool as the only thing we know about him is that he was supposed to have been born in April.
