Who would've thought he be so good on a TV prog about horses? Dh reckons he's a crap rider, though. Clunes said in the second programme that he's mostly ridden his own horse, Chester, so presumably lack of experience.

They should make it a weekly series...

We thought it was so disappointing. They crammed far to much in and didn't do any subject justice.

Would have been a great series.

We particularly liked the features on people who really do rely on horses now - rather than as playthings.

Also a shame that they seemed to film everything in the Winter and even the racing was on bottomless ground just because they tried to film his horse who wasn't fit that day.

Yes, a more in-depth look at horse-lore around the world would be fantastic.

How individual cultures have developed horse training/the relationship with the horse...

Alexandra Tolstoy did a great series that went into different equine cultures in more detail last year which was more targeted at the horse enthusiast.

I thought Martin Clunes was interesting and a bit more mainstream - surely that's a good thing to get more people interested, no?

Agree his riding was the best....bit old farmerish but that's OK too - at least he admitted as much. Was a great piece on him & his horses in the Telegraph last weekend....he's a proper pony-club Dad & runs his own show every year. Good on him I say!!!

It was given a terrible write up in the Daily mirror today (we get it at work!)

Some twonk saying things like "Martin Clunes asks Why do these animals allow us to get on their backs? well because they have been beaten and had their spirit totaly broken" Angry oh, yes and "Martin Clunes said how amasing it was that he felt such a bond sith his horse Chester - what because he gave him some hay and whipped him" Angry Angry

I nearly broke my golden rule and started a letter to a newspaper Shock luckily I realised in time that writing to a total idiot like him would be a waste of my energy and intelligence!

Loved the Alexandra Tolstoy series last year - totally divine film making.

Agree that Martin Clunes was more main stream but still badly produced. He could have done much more...

I saw him racing at Meydan (Dubai) in January and he is a real racing enthusiast.

I thought it was very entertaining and would help people who don't "know" horses understand why we love them so much. Well I certainly hoped my friends were watching so they'd understand why I spend so much time with them.

Martin Clunes was great, he said he wasn't the greatest rider but so what, he loves the horses with a passion and surely that the main thing.
