Summer 2010 mummies - back in the saddle?

And how's it going? :)

My son is now 7 weeks old and I had an emcs.

I've ridden twice this week and it's gone well - got a bit nervy as she was going mental when I was tacking up (all the others were let out to the field halfway through Hmm) - decided I had to get on as it was "now or never". Brilliant - I felt 100% invigorated and it's done wonders for my mental health. However, sitting trot is a bit "ouch" and getting off very painful. I think it's because you "plank" when you dismount. Am trying to find a better solution for that - maybe leg over pommel instead.

Have had to buy a more generously cut pair of breeches. Blush

...so the person I saw in H&H yesterday about someone doing a 70km endurance ride 3 months after giving birth... won't be you??

..that wouldn't have been me either.. take it easy.. give yourself time to heal, though well done on getting back on.

Maybe not! Wink I had planned on doing a ODE first weekend of October - but now I'm here in reality and there's no way I'd have been fit enough. Also, she's not fit either as I couldn't find anyone to ride her in a decent manner.

But is nice that the two of you can get fit together.

DD must have been about 8 weeks before I got back on board - mare & I foaled within months of each other so would've been sooner but decided to wait for little-horse to be weaned. Had to do it in the end to keep my sanity and was lovely to sink back into the saddle - couldn't stop smiling for ages.
No CS for me but did struggle following the movement for a bit, especially spooks. Felt like I was always a second behind. That'll sort once you get your core muscles back, as might sitting trot & dismounting.

I also developed a bit of a mental block on jumping so had some lessons once the fitness improved & haven't looked back. Don't think I'll be jumping any hedges tho Wink

Not yet, DS was born yesterday!

CS here too, and feeling very sore today so despite being desperate to get back on my mare, the very thought makes me wince atm!

After my first (emcs) i was back on in about 3 weeks, but literally just rode up and down the yard once.

dd is now 3 weeks old, was up at stables yesterday and was desperate to be back on but tear not healing brilliantly so will reluctantly be listening to head rather than heart and leaving it another couple of weeks i think just to be safe. was back on within 12days with other two so a bit frustrated but don't want to do long term harm so trying to be patient!!

Well, i was naughty and got on my mare 13days after DS was born. Was fine, even had a little trot (not good with very full boobs!) but getting of was a bit uncomfortable. Was planning on riding again this weekend just one but feel a bit sore from skipping the field out (well, pushing the barrow back to the yard) so going to give myself a bit more time (sensible i guess)

Need to practically re-break my TB as he has had a lovely long holiday but now resembles a slightly wild yearling Grin

found wearing my body protector helped with chest situation last time! still not back on yet as juggling 3 a bit more difficult, including 4 trips for school/nursery pick ups so not much time.

You guys have all put me to shame. DS is 8 months and i went out with my mum for a hack on Sunday and was crippled for 3 days. Admittedly wasn't really riding fit before being pregnant. I am really looking forward to getting back into it and can feel the difference it is going to make to my fitness.

Hmmm - getting a bit jealous of you lot now. Am just about 20 weeks gone & have had hip problems for last few months (poss sciatica). Reluctantly starting to think perhaps I should knock riding on the head until post-baby Sad

hi again ski! got back on horse day after 6 week check (JUST back in jods) - sitting trot was a complete no but canter (we had 3 strides!) bum off saddle was ok! the getting off thing was fun though - make sure yoyu don't whack the iron in your tummy like I did! It was lovely to get back on board and feel like me again (and not just a mummy - is that really bad to think??)

Unfortunately rode my horse only a few times before deciding to retire him - he's 25 and although thinks he's 4 unfortunately his back is just way tooo dipped and unsound. So tempted to get another but ££s are just not there with dd and being on maternity leave!

Hey, My lil one is 6 weeks, but due to my large blood loss etc I need to wait till my 5 week check up which is this thursday, so wish me well guys, deserpate to start getting back into the saddle
