Long term storage of tack

Is there anything you should do when preparing tack for long term storage that will stop it drying out and getting brittle?

Usually I smear it with that really gunky stüben stuff and then leave it boxed up. Is there a better method? Any tips welcome.

Not sure - maybe oil it really well before the stuben gunk? Keep it dry, maybe get some of those silicate bags? Perhaps get it out and re-oil every year/18 months?

Maybe I should just sell it all. The likelihood of me getting another horse that big is low. If I get another one it will be a pony for the kids and I don't think that the dressage saddle will be suitable somehow.

You mean tossing it on top of the tumble dryer is a no? ShockWink

In ye olden dayes, we generously oiled, placed inside a large plastic sack and stored in the dark.

I stored some covered in a film of Vaseline - for 10 years. Was perfect Wink
