INSET Days

I work at a school Thursday and Friday. Inset days seem to always be on a Monday. I have another job that I work half a day on Monday, full days Tuesday and Wednesday. My non school job are happy for me to attend inset if I work my Monday hours elsewhere in the week (evening or weekend). I told school I could do all the Monday insets but 9:30-2:30 so I can do school drop off and pick up, Monday is the one day I’ve kept protected for the school run, but my head has come back to me to say I’m expected to attend all of them and a shorter day is disruptive for the other staff. Surely she can’t force me to work on an inset day if I’m not contracted to work that day?? Her email was so rude and now I don’t want to attend any. 🤣🙈

Check your contract. Does it say Thursday and Friday or does it say T and F plus inset days?

Thank you for your reply. I can’t find anything about insets at all in my contract. X

Hmmm check with whoever does the HR where you work.
I can't imagine you have to go in on Mondays when this is not your working day.

Bless them for trying - but you cannot be directed on Mondays because you're not employed on Mondays.

Thank you for your replies. It’s so annoying because I had offered to come to inset on Mondays! Just not 8:30-3:30! But apparently only the entire day, every Monday inset is the only acceptable arrangement. 🙄

It's very simple - you don't need to do any of it. And they also can't make you "make up the time" regardless of what they might want to tell you.

I'm a rep with a member who doesn't work on our meeting day. They'll do none of that time and can't be made to.

If you did show up on the Monday, they'd have to pay you for it.

So no, you won't be attending Monday INSET. Literally nothing they can do about it.
