How is everyone feeling about the new year?

I’m the usual mix of excitement and nerves. Lots of new material this year - other half of the Alevel (which is away from my specialism) and year 7s(!). I usually teach year 9 and up with a lean towards the Alevel classes as specialist (physics) teachers are hard to find but this year is a bit different with some new staff wanting to do Alevel teaching.

I've managed a Sunday swim, but no runs at all...😬

Last week was too busy. We all complained via SLT feedback forms. Two full INSET days, 1.5 hours department time across the two days. My first free period was yesterday, and I was teaching/training from 08:30 until 6pm.

I promised my husband that I would leave school at 5pm this year, and I have already been staying until 6pm to try to do all the things we should have been able to do before pupils arrived: seating plans, organising resources, reading SEND profiles, etc. I feel awful for not knowing pupils' needs but I literally have not had the time. We are a high SEND intake school so you would think we get a decent amount of time to review before we teach them for the first time!

Grumble over. My form are lovely and behaviour is substantially better across the school than this time last year. 🤞

I can’t seem to muster any enthusiasm.
INSET was predictably boring but normally I get excited to meet my new classes and see the “old” ones y11/13. But this year I’m not feeling it.
time for a change maybe?
but how to get a new job with zero enthusiasm?
