How many SEN pupils are usually taken out by a supply TA

I’m currently a supply TA in year 4. Can anyone tell me how large the groups they take out of the classroom are pls?

The children are all SEN and are working at y1/y2 level and can’t do much independently. However I’m increasingly being given more and more children to take out.

I wouldn't send my Y4s out with a supply TA - they'd stay in the classroom. At most though, I'd say a group of 5 whether that's for support in or out of the classroom, ideally 3 or 4.

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. I’m trying to gage what is ‘normal’ as this is my first role. I feel anything larger than 5 is not beneficial to the children.

Its interesting that you would not send a supply ta out of the class, I’m long term supply if that makes any difference.

I think it depends on the child and their needs. If a child is very disruptive and is affecting the other children's learning then they may be taken out.

can anyone else help with this pls?

At my school (I’m a TA) if it’s SEN it’s normally 1 or 2 as depends on need and behaviour. If it’s general support with those that struggle it may be 3 - 5. If it’s an intervention group these ca be quite large, I currently have one with 7 children which I feel is too many.

Thank you that’s helpful to know! Helps me to gauge whether I need to say anything
