Appropriate Sportwear for Secondary Teachers

Hello!

I have got an interview in the coming weeks to train and become a Secondary dance teacher, and have been instructed to come in wearing appropriate sportswear for a practical session. Can anyone advise me on what they wear, or does anyone know what teachers in their school wear, that works practically but poses no risk of clashing with school policies? I currently teach in a very relaxed after-school environment where I can wear almost anything I fancy, but understand that schools follow a dress code and may have restrictions around wearing tight fitting clothing or brands - I've tried requesting a dress code and have heard nothing back, so am just trying to gauge options in case I need to order something. Many thanks!

I would play it safe- unbranded and plain! Gym leggings and a plain sweater (no big logos or emblems) that’s not too short/cropped. Hair in a ponytail maybe.

Leggings wouldn't be appropriate.

Interesting, all the teachers at our school wear gym leggings on PE day, and we have gym coaches that come in and their uniform is navy gym leggings and a stripy navy and white t shirt.

Is that primary, if all teachers have a set day?

In our secondary, the girls themselves aren't allowed tight leggings as part of PE uniform. It's proper tracksuit pants, unless wearing leggings under shorts.

I know that teachers aren't pupils, but staff wouldn't wear them either, so I think someone on interview and wanting to train who did would be considered to have misjudged their attire.

I'd agree with the other posters saying that a looser fit trousers would be a safer bet for an interview but it's not really my area.

However what I did think was if you have a look through the website and prospectus you might get a feeling for the PE staff dress code and then extrapolate that into what you might wear for dance?

But definitely err on the side of plain, and loose fitting. I don't think anyone will care if you've got branded footwear on though, so don't worry so much about that.

I would go with loose practical trousers and t shirt - not leggings. They are recognising that dance can't be done in a suit of course.

Good luck!
