ITT with pre school kids??

New2Mumming · 16/12/2025 21:12

Is it possible to train to teach (ideally school direct) if I have two pre school kids?? They would be 2 and 4 years old when I start in September.
What are the hours officially ie is it 4 days in school and 1 day study?
Is there ANY childcare funding if household income is above 60k? Student Finance is impossible to contact.
I am going to do English - am I likely to get a job straight out of training?
Thank you!

I don't know about childcare funding - but in my area you would 100% get a job easily as there are no English teachers despite what the government think.

I think it would be difficult to train with preschool children but not impossible - I do think it depends on how they sleep... If you're able to put them to bed and they stay in bed...

I think it would mainly come down to whether you had good childcare arrangements / a partner with a flexible job / support network. ITT is incredibly hard work, even when you don't have young kids dependent on you. I think if you didn't have any of the above, it would be nigh on impossible TBH.

I did it as a single parent with 3, 5 and 8 year olds. It was tough. I did have my mum’s support - secure childcare is essential. The first 5 years were the worst! Much easier now. I do feel sad I missed a lot of my time with my kids cos of planning continually but the holidays were good so that was something.

I think you would need to check, in the last school I worked in where this was an option, it was 4 days teaching and one day as a TA. Also lots of English teachers doing supply round here because they can’t get jobs so definitely do some research in your local area.
