Any teachers started a school council from scratch?

I’ve been tasked with setting up the primary school council from scratch. Not even sure where to start, apart from Google searching it. Anyone here done this and has any advice?

Each class voted for 2 reps. Plus we included head boy and girl.Meetings were held 2-3 times each half term, usually during our assembly time.

Children were asked to discuss issues/wishes with their class which were then brought back to the school council meetings. Areas discussed often stemmed from issues at lunchtime - or you'd get one random class asking for a swimming pool or a 2 hour lunchtime😂

We often chose a charity and then developed fundraising ideas to support it. We have had bake sales, fill a jar with pennies for a week - that sort of thing.

As pp said, we voted 2 reps from each ks2 class, (y5 and y6 then go and talk to ks1 about anything we discuss).
We talk about any issues they want addressed (no we can't take maths off the timetable) and they voted on things such as fundraising events.
They also ran a few events such as designing a poster to stop cars parking by the gates and a danceathon.
