Teacher covering another teacher - pay?

Hello,

A few months ago I was asked by my Headteacher if I'd cover my partner teacher (I'm part time) whilst she was ill. I've just been looking back at my pay slips and I think they've paid me the daily rate for an M1 teacher. But I'm on M6 on the pay scale.

Is this normal?! It wasn't mentioned that I wouldn't be paid my normal rate! Feel like I've been robbed! I had no idea I was going to be paid as a basic supply teacher.

I’ve always been paid my normal rate when I’ve done extra days. Would not be happy to be paid a lower rate at all. Are you in a union?

No not normal - go and query this and request to be back paid in your next salary payment.

Thanks both, yes I'm in the union and I'll call them on Monday. Just wondered if anyone knew anything on here!

Before you contact your union, just speak to the business manager or payroll, it could be a mistake that they can sort for you without the need for union involvement.

Yes this - it might just be an accident!

That's a good point! I hope it's just an accident. Rather than my school thinking they can get some cheap supply from me! Or that they don't think I'm worth my M6 pay.

It’s always an accident in their favour though!
