Do you prefer KAGAN or grouping in Primary?

Hi there,

Ex-secondary science teacher here, so obviously everything was set from year 7-11.

However, I have a daughter in primary school (year 2).

She has recently moved schools, from a school that used KAGAN to grouping by ability (by table colour). I feel like for her the grouping has worked better.

But I am just interested from a teaching perspective, what do you feel works better, and from your experience what are the pros and cons of each?

I think it depends on the class and what you are teaching. I sometimes use Kagan but also had an observed lesson once where my "top" group were at a separate table because they were doing a different activity. The rest of my class were mixed.
I frequently move their seats and the table arrangements in my room.
