Want to leave but I've missed the deadline

I'm gutted that I have not resigned from my job in an independent school as I have completely lost faith in the management after our start of term inset. I've missed the deadline to resign at the start of this term (we have to give a full terms notice to leave so I will have to wait until the start of Autumn!). I am desperate to leave and have felt that its not a good place for my career for a while. I now feel completely trapped by the long notice period, especially as most of the state school jobs are being advertised now. A cautionary tale - get out as soon as possible!

Hopefully I'll start to see jobs advertised for for January towards the end of this half term.

Can you not speak to your line manager or HT and see if you can agree an early release citing mental health concerns etc. They’ll have plenty of time to recruit a replacement especially with state teachers.

You need to be having this conversation asap as the recruitment market for September starts is at its peak right now.

Yes, go and have a quiet conversation with your headteacher. I did that before, and they allowed me to leave after the May resignation date, even though I didn’t resign before the deadline. They still have plenty of time to find someone.
