Head of English Help

Evening all!

I'm looking to get some advice please 🙏

I have been offered the role of head of primary English for Y1 - Y6 in my school. It's a new/growing (independent) school and so I'll be the first English lead.

It's an amazing opportunity but in all honesty, I have no idea where to begin.

Does anyone have any ideas/advice and what the first steps would be?

I’m secondary so can’t really advise as such at a primary level. Bumping this for you for any primary teachers out there who can give you some detailed advice.

From what I do know though (as I know someone who is a subject lead in a primary) is that they are responsible for improving the teaching and learning of that subject across the school - providing support to staff and further development where required. No direct reports like in secondary though.
