Site Manager and Fire Doors

Is anyone else’s Site Manager really strict about wedging doors open and constantly confiscating door wedges? Would we be in the wrong to ask the SBM for fire door retainers in the department?

Yes you would. The site manager is responsible for the safety of everyone on the site - a wedged open fire door is potentially dangerous.

Yeah they need to be shut. We had the same problem in a metal building that approx a million degrees and no ventilation so we wedged the stairwell open

Asked for fire door retainers - we have them in our new build.

A member of teaching staff was given a formal warning through propping their classroom door open with a fire extinguisher.

As previous poster said; the site manager is responsible for the health and safety across the site and they are only just doing their job….. we don’t have door wedges in our school….

I would ask for fire door retainers. If I was turned down, I wouldn't be happy but I would never make life difficult or awkward for the caretaker by wedging doors open. That's a really dickish thing to do to him/her.

Do you not have regular fire safety training? We have it on a yearly basis. Wedging open fire doors is a very big NO!
