Hi all,

Current GCSE and a level maths teacher and interested in teaching economics. Those that teach it, do you have a degree/masters in it? Trying to decide what course I need to do (I have a maths degree).

Thank you for any insights!

I don't but do have a business degree. More important is enthusiasm and a willingness to keep up to date with current affairs and learn the assessment criteria

You'll get snapped up as there's such a shortage. But you will probably find your timetable gets filled up with Maths anyway.

More importantly are YOU interested in it?

Also you do realise it's an essay subject?

It taught economics a level as an ECT. It was my preferred subject although I didn’t have any qualifications in economics (business degree). My main difficulty was the lack of support/resources. There is a major shortage of economics teachers but it’s very difficult to teach without a willing mentor/resources, unless it’s the only subject you’re teaching (in my experience).

There's loads of resources!

www.tutor2u.net/economics

This is one of the best but there are lots of others including abundant good quality material on YouTube (EconplusDal, Marginal Revolution).

You can easily buy whole sets of teaching PPTs to get you started.
