Applying for jobs - cover letter?

I’ve started applying for jobs - obviously the application is in depth and I’ve written in detail in the main section.
Are cover letters also expected for teaching jobs?

There's usually space on the application for a personal statement, which tends to be in place of a cover letter these days. I wouldn't send a cover letter as well, unless the advert specifically asks for one, but I would include everything you would have put in there in your personal statement. Make this section approximately one side of A4, making sure you make specific references to the essential skills mentioned in their specification. Don't waffle, but make sure you cover absolutely everything they're asking for.

Good luck

Thank you! I did feel this but on the application it mentions a cover letter vaguely but I wonder if that’s something that’s been on there for decades but isn’t really needed now.
Hopefully they read the application that I’ve spent hours on
