Extreme verbal abuse

Criterianone · 09/10/2024 22:08

So today an angry parent (male) told me (female) to “fuck off you cunt- go and suck your dads cock”

now, I’m a tough cookie but I’m actually thinking whether I should report this to the police??

I would. Were there any witnesses?

Sadly not, it was a phone call

He should be banned from school grounds, but these days you'll probably be told how awful you are and that you should recognise he's probably got trauma so #behind.

Lonelyplanet · 10/10/2024 17:29

He'll probably get offered a cup of tea in the heads office and you'll have to apologise for upsetting him. That's what would happen in my school.

DoreenonTill8 · 10/10/2024 17:36

Obviously @Lonelyplanet he may have hurted his voice shouting at the OP and needs a salve for it!

Lonelyplanet · 10/10/2024 17:42

Yes DoreenonTill8 and then his child will receive special privileges for the rest of the year so that the head doesn't have to waste time offering him more tea.

Lonelyplanet · 10/10/2024 17:45

Sorry OP for making light of it. I hope you are OK. So many of us are receiving unacceptable abuse that is never dealt with.

liquidsquidli · 10/10/2024 19:06

Urgh.

Have you told your head? What was their response?

I'd find out a little background first (wouldn't want the child to suffer) before I called the police but yes that is awful.

How is your safeguarding person? Can you ask them what the situation is with the child?

Ah but first the head would need to clear their office of all the tired children who have been trashing classrooms who are having their hot chocolate and biscuits in there!

Exactly this!
I honestly think it’s pointless reporting it because unless you’re in one of the very few schools who actually challenge parents over unacceptable behaviour, nothing will be done.
I’m curious to know what people think the police would do in this situation? Seeing as they don’t seem to do anything about things like physical assault, burglary etc as it is! Just generally curious to know if anyone has ever had any success with reporting verbal abuse?

ThanksItHasPockets · 11/10/2024 12:50

What did your headteacher say? (Unless you are the headteacher, of course).

It’s really disappointing to hear that pp have no confidence that this man would be barred from school grounds. There are still plenty of headteachers who would have no hesitation in doing this.

The police will not do anything if you don’t have evidence. That said though, I would definitely escalate it to your line manager/ headteacher and pastoral support in your school.

I would say place a note on their DC’s records that the DP is verbally abusive but it depends if the parent will have full visibility of what is placed on there..
Your colleagues need to be aware of this so that they don’t encounter the same/similar situation. Take the guidance from line manager or HT on what to do next..
