For those who started in a new school - how are you getting on?

Interested to know from those fellow folk who have started in a new school this term and how they’re actually getting on?

I’ve taken over a school that received a RI in the last OFSTED inspection in March 2024. The old HT resigned during an investigation into safeguarding conduct (another issue) so I’ve been tasked with fixing the school.

Although, students were back last week, my work began as soon as I returned from holiday about a month ago! It’s been non stop meetings and setting agendas to improve.

It’s going to be an uphill battle for sure but I can expect OfSTED be back before Christmas if not January….

Doesn’t help that I have 8 vacancies across the teaching team and 4 in the support team…
I’ve had to have my AHT’s and DHT’s pick up classes when I need them to be focussing on whole school improvement with me!!! I don’t have the budget for that many supply teachers - the two full time Cover Supervisors are at full timetables - just thankful they have QTS!

Things can only get better….

I take my hat off to you. It sounds like you're doing a brilliant job in the face of great adversity. Good luck!
