Oldest member of staff in your school?

One of our members of staff - happens to be our Food Technician - is celebrating their 85th Birthday the day we break up before the end of term.

The colleague joined the school in 1985 as the HoD for Food & Nutrition before stepping down and going part time back in 2004. They currently work 3 mornings per week supporting the Food Tech department - a real commitment! They’ve carried on working more so as a hobby as opposed to the need of having a job. They have often been asked when they plan to fully retire and have said that they plan to continue working until their health dictates!! I mean she could still be working here in her 90s….

We’ve got a surprise staff room party planned for them but it’s triggered my thought process - who is the oldest member of staff you have at your school?

I think i'm pretty much the oldest at 53- there are a few older SLT but we lost 27 teachers this tranch of resignation, leaving me the oldest doing any ACTUAL teaching instead of just telling or judging.

I feel old and tired. Possibly if my school wasn't so full on and nicey nicey stupid behaviour policy, I'd feel less old and less people would have left!

F/T learning mentor at 76 - she's incredible and a LTS at 77 who's been there since the school opened.

I'm the 3rd oldest teacher in the school but I have 4 instrumental teacher colleagues in Music who are older than me. One retired today aged 70. 2 others are in their late 70s; one cannot afford to go, the other just loves coming in for his short teaching day of 9 students. He is also the nicest, most helpful and kind chap, so I hope he does another year or so.

Interesting thread. I think 51 or 52. Thinking about it, I've only ever worked with 2 people who are older than this which is ridiculous. (I'm primary)

Our oldest is an English Teacher who still does two days a week at 73. She is an absolute legend. Very strict and very loving and the kids adore her.
