Pension when I die

GoofyGoldie · 24/06/2024 10:37

I have terminal cancer. My husband, (married in 2022) will be bringing up my DD 15 when I die.
I took ill health retirement in May 23 when I was 55.
Will he get half of my monthly pension payment when I die?

Unfortunately I don't think he will.

Can you ring TP to ask this? They will tell you how much your DH is likely to get.

I didn't think that pensions form part of a will? You should be able to log into the TP website and nominate who you'd like your pension to go to.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. Best give the TP a ring.

GoofyGoldie · 24/06/2024 19:48

Thank you.
I have filled in the form to nominate DH. I'll give TP a ring to find out. They weren't exactly useful when we were sorting my pension, but maybe I'll have better luck this time.

Hi OP. I’m so sorry that you are in this position.

See this page from Wesleyan for details relevant to the teacher pension scheme. It’s not quite as generous as half the pension but he should be entitled to something.

Search for David Fountain Teacher Pensions.

He knows more than the TPS people.

BG2015 · 25/06/2024 17:18

@Hateam Facebook group above re:David Fountain/Diddy Dave from the old TES Forum

Hateam · 25/06/2024 21:15

Diddy Dave is on the new forum now.

If you can cling onto sick leave , rather than leaving ( sorry) then your death in service benefit should be large and useful

The OP says in her post that she already took ill health retirement last May.

Sorry, and I tell the kids to read the bloody question. My apologies OP.

hastalavista · 10/08/2024 20:36

Your kids may get a kids pension.
With TPS it's always better to go on the app/website and send secure messages. I think they have some special arrangements for terminally ill people regarding payouts. Good luck.
