HTS - How many resignations have you had?

Friday is the deadline for teachers to hand their notices in so that they can leave at the end of academic year.

How many resignations have you had?

I’ve had 6 so far - the lowest I’ve had in years (apart from COVID) - no leadership colleagues all teaching colleagues. I’m not expecting anymore resignations (as haven’t had reference requests) but who knows?!

None.
We had one leave earlier in the year but no one since.

Elendel · 31/05/2024 09:19

Not a HT, but 17 leaving - that we know of.

Although it might be helpful to say how many teachers to start with! We just have to 11!

I asked DS who works in a big secondary school, as he was here as I was reading this. He said he thought it was far less than usual and that a couple of the leavers were SLT but he's a HOD, not a HT, so couldn't say for sure.

I think one thing that has really changed recently is the number of people leaving at odd times. This half-term, we've had the usual Easter leavers, followed by some people leaving on 31st April, then one person halfway though May, now some after Whitsun. I've never known so many people leave at different times; the usual ones are Christmas and summer with the very odd Easter leavers.
My 17 refers purely to people leaving in summer, which is around a quarter of our staff, so yes, turnover is crazy.

We have 200 colleagues on our payroll - so 6 leavers is only 3%.

Highest we had was between 2021/2022 as we came out of the COVID lockdowns we had 30 leavers - given we had none during 2020 and early 2021 and it was a time when people were moving about.

@elendela quarter of your staff, considering you've had others leave mid year already, is insane. Is there a particular reason why so many are leaving your school do you think? Yes retention is a challenge, but not that much of a challenge.

Elendel · 02/06/2024 15:11

Yep, the place is going to hell in a handcart. I'm one of the leavers 😁

Hayliebells · 02/06/2024 15:36

Oh dear, I'm sorry about that, but at least you're getting out! Do you think there's anything the school leadership can do, or are they the problem?

HideTheCroissants · 03/06/2024 09:24

Unless it’s being kept VERY secret no one is leaving my school - we are very small though.
