Applied for a job… outside of teaching

I’ve been teaching for over 15 years.

Until this year, I’ve always loved it. It would never have crossed my mind to do anything else. I work in a lovely school, with great SLT. I genuinely thought I’d be there until retirement.

But, honestly, now I just Can’t Be Arsed.

I’m not sure if it’s this cohort, the funding crisis, the ‘breakdown of social contract’ after covid, or something totally different. Middle age? Menopause?

I’ve literally just hit ‘submit’ on an application for a role outside of teaching. I’m shocked at myself, and also slightly terrified.

Anyone else thinking of jumping ship?

I’m at 38 years this year but will be retiring in August. I’ve been a HT for the last 17 years though. I’m 60 this year so taking a little early retirement - I could go on and work a few more years but it’s time now to go and actually have more freedom and travel. Education isn’t the same as what it was - it has become more of a tick box exercise….

Good luck @Crumpetsssss

I'm very tempted to take early retirement/ill health retirement. I'm 55.

But I'd like to do something stress free that I can forget about at the end of the day. I've thought of NHS admin work just for 2 days a week to top up my pension.

I've had a few health issues (breast cancer in 2021) and now I've developed a severe form of asmtha.

I'm done with education. 28 years and it's changed so much.

Yes hopefully next year! I never thought I would be brave enough to leave, but I just can't do it anymore.

What job have you applied for, if I may ask?
