Return to teaching after maternity leave

I’m not able to do any KIT days prior to my return to school (secondary teacher). Would it be reasonable for me to request/expect some time to get up to date on changes and new initiatives and to do some planning, before I start teaching? Or should I be prepared to be teaching from my first day back? Thanks

I would imagine it would depend on when you are due to return. If after a holiday then it might be difficult for them to facilitate that. If it is mid-term they might be able to give you a day or so to hand over.
All you can do is speak to your line manager and see what can be arranged.

Thank you for your reply. It’s after a holiday. I will speak to my line manager about it, but useful to hear other people’s thoughts/experiences before I do that.

I went back to full teaching immediately, no meeting or update, nothing! If you can get them to agree to a day before or at least a meeting then that would be really useful as I found it hard to catch up! I've been back almost 3 months now and still haven't got a clue about some of the stuff people are on about haha (and I'm a HOD!). If you're returning after a holiday, can you maybe change it to the day before the holidays so you can have a day to catch up and get paid for the holidays?

Crikey LunaBear26 that sounds tough!

Yeah, it's been quite tough but getting better :) my line manager has been pretty supportive generally which helps. Hope yours is too!
