30 minutes lunch breaks

I started I. 2004 as a trainee. We always had a 1 hour for lunch. Fast forward 20 years that now 30 minutes.

I've moved schools a few times and my current school was 40 mins and changed during Covid to 30.

Many schools cite the behaviour and lack of lunch supervisors the issue.

But, I'm feeling this 30 minutes is realistically 20 at most and I rarely get that. Tidying up and setting up is the 10 mins. There is usually something urgent I need to do at lunch so I have to do that. I may be photocopying as there is not enough hours!!

I'm regularly getting less than 10 minutes at lunch and it's driving me a bit bananas. The odd occasion I do get to sit at lunch with colleague it goes so fast.

It's not time really to eat a proper lunch or a hot lunch.

Sorry just bit of a rant!

Sounds awful. SLT should take a higher profie at lunchtime perhaps.

Have they reduced another work slot to give back the time?

They must stick to the directed time budget of 1265 hours.

I think I just feel I am continuously chasing my tail!

SLT do lunch duty from 1230-2pm

That's 5 member of SLT doing duties. Paid between 60k and 120k per year.

I just need a longer break and also I only get two hours of PPA a weeks I am 4 days. My days are crackers.

That does sound tough.
I think they can do this as the minimum luncallowed by law 20 mins.

But they should reduce your hours elsewhere I would have thought.

Contact uour union.

30 mins is so annoying-a school I was in moved back from 30 to 40. I expect because the teachers complained! I don't think it is good for the kids anyway - as if they buy lunch they often spend all the time queuing

My previous school had 30 minutes. Current school is 40 minutes but going to 30 next year.

I have kind of gotten used to it but it would be nice to have longer. I am paid leadership so I do some lunch duties but not all. The days I don't, I feel lunch is taken up setting my lesson up for P5, checking emails, quick bite to eat. I never actually sit with colleagues during lunch.

I trained in 2009/10 and the schools I trained at both had an hour. I then worked in a 6th form college for 5 years where we had an hour. Moving to a school with 30 minutes was rather a shock to the system 😂
