If you’re signed off then you shouldn’t be doing any form of work and it’s something I’d be careful of doing for sure - especially if you tutor kids that have links to your school?

This isn’t correct. Firstly, you need to check your contract to check if it mentions anything about second jobs. If there is any doubt then double check with your HR department. Generally if you are off with WRS then it is job specific and you should still be able to tutor as long as it’s not at a time when you would normally be working in the school.

You need to check the terms of your contract and the sick pay policy. If necessary your union will be able to advise.

If you are signed off by a doctor, I think they can specify on the fit note that you are fit for some work but not all. That would make it difficult for anyone to complain.
But yes, this is a time to contact your union.
