Returning to teaching after 8+ years

Wondering if anyone can offer me some advice please.

I'm a previous mainstream secondary MFL teacher with 7 years experience, went through threshold onto upper pay scale but have had 8 years out of the classroom since having my DC.

Recently returned to work as a TA in a secondary school. Now considering applying for a teaching job in alternative provision. I understand pay portability no longer applies but wondering if I could potentially be asked about salary expectations at application / interview and where I should pitch my expectations?

You'll more likely be asked to put your previous wages on your application form and they'll offer you a starting wage based on that, taking into consideration your gap.
