When you write a cover letter to the head, how do you address them? Dear Mrs Bloggs or Dear Jane? Dear Jane Bloggs?
Dear Mr/Mrs seems too formal but first name a bit presumptuous. What do you usually do?

Dear Mr/Ms X (unless their title is on the website, I wouldn't use a Miss/Mrs title). It's better to be overformal than come across as disrespectful.

100% keep it formal, dear Mrs Bloggs.

Thank you @waterdusky and @calorcalorcalor. Will do!

I'd phone the office and ask what their title is if I wasn't sure. I don't think it's too formal OP because teachers are very used to being called, e.g, Mrs Smith all day everyday.
