Proof of antenatal appointment

Hi I am teacher and currently some weeks pregnant, I have had my first scan and have a date for my 2nd one (20 weeks) already. The 2nd scan appointment date falls on a day/time I am working, I couldn't get this changed. I have requested to get some time off for that, like leave work earlier than usual to attend the appointment in the afternoon. I haven't informed my employer that I am pregnant yet, as I was waiting to do this 20 week scan first before letting them know because I feel it is still quite early, since I haven't been ill, my bump isn't showing and I am managing well. I have been asked to give a proof of my hospital ppointment which has the details of the appointment (what it is etc). To be fair, I don't want to disclose the pregnancy yet until I have had this scan. What do I do? Thanks

All antenatal appointments are paid and don't count towards absence records

Other types of appointments are not treated the same way

You can absolutely expect that your medical information is kept private

I would share the info

Also appropriate risk assessments can then be put in place

The guidance on your rights is summarised here: https://www.gov.uk/working-when-pregnant-your-rights

The relevant part is in this screengrab. I’m afraid you will need to disclose the nature of the appointment in order to exercise your legal right to take paid time off. You can insist that this is kept confidential.

Do they want to know the details? If you really dont want to tell them, can you take a picture/scan the appointment letter and then redact all the info other than date/time?

@ThanksItHasPockets thanks for the information.
@LunaBear26 the person in charge of dealing with such requests, has advised I add a proof of the appointment to be given to the head. Yes I really wanted to wait until I have had the scan.
