Handing in notice to leave at Easter

I’m considering this.

I’ve never left a school part way through a year, let alone with nothing to go to (!!), but I just don’t want to teach any more!

would you do it?

OP posts:
orangeblossom23 · 19/01/2024 19:05

Do it! Apply for new jobs now and you will exit in April with a new job lined up. There is no point in dragging it for your wellbeing.
What are you going into next?

Beansandcheesearegood · 19/01/2024 21:41

Yes! I'm looking to leave too.

good96 · 20/01/2024 09:12

Only if you were desperate to leave or you had a really good opportunity that needed an easter start.
If not, I’d wait and leave at the end of the summer term.

BrutusMcDogface · 20/01/2024 19:03

Thank you.

I am looking to leave teaching altogether, to be honest!

Civil service seems to be good! Lots of ex teachers working there.
Wish you all the best x

BrutusMcDogface · 20/01/2024 22:13

Thank you @orangeblossom23 💐

I’m looking on the civil service jobs page and finding it very confusing! 😂

Sunday eve is the worst part of the week... I always get the Sunday scaries...
I am leaving at the end of the academic year and I cannot wait😍

BrutusMcDogface · 21/01/2024 18:28

Where are you going next, @orangeblossom23 ? Have you handed in your notice yet?

OP posts:
sweetpeagarden · 21/01/2024 19:51

I need to leave at Easter too. I’ve tried holding out since before October half term but I know it would be detrimental to my wellbeing to just stay for the sake of the end of year. Ideally, I would have liked to hand in a notice and work it but because I’ve hit a wall I’ve had to take sick leave.
I hope you feel better soon x

Yes I have handed my notice in for the end of the academic year🙏 I am currently evaluating my options for home working! I also was thinking about a sideways move into something pastoral. I have time now until the summer term to really think about my next move.
Classroom teaching is too gruelling at the mo 🙏 I am picking myself up mentally and emotionally as I did not last a long time in teaching but I cannot go on anymore and honestly I feel a MILION times better now

BrutusMcDogface · 21/01/2024 23:20

I’m sorry @sweetpeagarden 💐 hope your time off helps you to heal.

@orangeblossom23 I do think I’ll feel like a weight has lifted when I finally hand my notice in! Congratulations to you and hope the right job is just around the corner for you!

I have mentioned this on another thread recently but I think it bears repeating as so few people seem to be aware - you can only literally leave at Easter if you are going to another teaching job. If you aren't then your leaving date is 30 April, and as Easter is so early this year that means going back for the first three weeks of the summer term. You could request an early release but the school would be under no obligation to grant this.

I'm sorry that it's tough today, @BrutusMcDogface Flowers

BrutusMcDogface · 23/01/2024 18:54

Thank you @YippieKayakOtherBuckets

I did know it was 30th April because Easter is always different.

I think I might have a possible out! Fingers crossed 🤞

Good luck OP. I'm moving to a new school after Easter and counting down the days

BrutusMcDogface · 06/02/2024 18:16

Thank you for resurrecting my thread, @pinkberet 😊

I’m struggling so much. My head and heart just aren’t in it at all. 😢

OP posts:
BrutusMcDogface · 06/02/2024 18:17

Good luck in your new school, too!

OP posts:
pinkberet · 06/02/2024 18:51

Thanks @BrutusMcDogface
Are you having any luck moving on?

notknowledgeable · 06/02/2024 23:10

good luck and best wishes to all resigners xx

BrutusMcDogface · 07/02/2024 07:54

I have two options. One a potential job and the other, go back to college!!

OP posts:
BrutusMcDogface · 07/02/2024 07:55

Might need to win the lottery for the latter, though 🤔

GoodGollyMissM · 07/02/2024 08:16

I've handed in my notice already. I requested to leave on April 14th and I really don't want to go back for the last couple of weeks. It's a horrible school, behaviour is appalling, SLT are becoming ruder and ruder. I've been told they will "consider my request". I'm not panicking at the moment, I have nothing lined up and if I do I may just have to go back for a couple of weeks. I'm still leaving whatever Smile

BrutusMcDogface · 08/02/2024 07:52

Good luck, @GoodGollyMissM !

You must feel such a sense of relief.

I’ve now signed up to lots of different job alerts because I’m sure I want out of teaching altogether.

Hi all! I just wanted to update my thread and let you all know that I did it!!

current thoughts:

  • have I made the right decision?! <panic>
  • omg I can’t wait to finish!! <euphoria>
  • wtf are we going to do for money?! Will I find another job?! <panic>
  • I have definitely DEFINITELY made the right decision!! <euphoria >
  • can I last until 30th April?! Can I just never go back? <soooo fed up with the job>

So there you have it. Talk about a rollercoaster! Can anyone identify?! 😂

Totally identify. I have nothing lined up but I need a change! The moment has come.
It is scary but there is so much excitement in change as well
