Notice when changing jobs

Apologies if this is a noob question (I only started teaching just over a year ago).

I am changing jobs after this term (my new job starts 15th April after the Easter term holiday). I already gave notice at my current school that this is my date of leaving.

But when I got my resignation letter from the school they are insisting my last day will be the 28th of March - therefore I will lose 2 weeks pay in the interim.

Is this normal? I assumed I would get paid by my current school until mid April when my new school would pick me up.

If you are under the STPCD/burgundy book, then the arrangements at Easter are that the leaving date is 30th April unless you are moving to another school, in which case it is the day before you start at the new school. So in that case you are right.

Check your contract to see that you are under the burgundy book. Then the first thing to do is to politely query it with reference to the burgundy book - it may be that someone new hasn't dealt with an Easter leaver before. If they don't budge, ask your union to help.

Have you had any updates from school whether they will be paying you? I also left but had put down last day working to be 23rd March (that’s when we broke up) not the 8th April. Not got a payslip yet or P45. I’m not going back into teaching lol
