Unable to find childcare after accepting a job

I recently went for an interview of a part time role in a school office and was offered a full time role in the interview. I accepted it informing that that i will need to arrange a childminder to pick up my kids from school. I am scheduled to start next year after christmas holidays. I have been looking for a childminder for nearly 2 weeks now and did not realise how challenging it would be. I cant find anyone who can pick up my kids from their school. My children's school finishes at 3.20pm and my work finishes at 4pm. I am really concerned, will the school take the offer back if I go back to them and inform them that i am not able find a childminder. The part time role I was interviewing for has already been filled.

Is there any after school clubs that ypur children can attend?

UFK · 09/12/2023 12:18

Their school does not have an afterschool club, i found one or two afterschool clubs not too far but they dont do school pick ups.

Schools are required to consider afterschool provision. Have you contacted your kids school and questioned why there's no asc?

UFK · 10/12/2023 23:41

I have contacted their school to check and they have confirmed that they dont offer afterschool care/club for children. They have said they dont have enough children for afterschool clubs. I even requested if they could provide any names of childminders who do school pick up from their school. They said they dont keep any names of childminders either.
Its getting more and more hopeless. Didnt realise how hard it is to find childcare.

Could you speak to the job and ask to leave at 3pm until you find a suitable childminder? They are a bit like gold dust and you might need to go on a waiting list...

Our secretary's child just stays and plays with toys till her Mum has finished. Is that an option?

Have you checked the council for a list of childminders in your area?
