Hi,

I am currently doing supply and they pay me £140 a day but I’m unsure if they are underpaying me or not? it’s hard to know what they pay others! Anybody know the average daily rate?

Some agencies only pay £110 a day. You can get more if you are doing a long term role. When I did supply in the past, I got £110 for daily supply. When I had a class as a long term supply teacher, I was paid £145 a day. However, £145 a day works out as the equivalent of a first year ECT. More experienced teachers should be getting up to £200 a day, to match their permanent equivalents.

In terms of the law, a supply teacher can be paid whatever the agency decides to pay them and / or whatever the supply teacher agrees to work for. However, after 12 weeks in the same placement, a supply teacher must be paid to scale, by law.

I just do general cover but I repeatedly go back to the same school. If I go back to it for 12 weeks in a row, will this also apply?

If you work part of any week that the school is open you are entitled to be paid to scale after 12 weeks.

Hello all,
First time here please answer me if anyone knows, I’m working with an agency as a supply TA they offered me last minute job after 8:40am until 3:30 in a primary school which is 1 hour and 10 minutes away from my house, I have to pay tube fare as my agency doesn’t give me extra money for travel and they also cut my 10 minute s money from that day even though they called me late they always cut my money and doesn’t pay me for full day. My other friends said their agencies never cut their money for late calls . Is this normal or my company is different??
Thanks in advance

I've signed up to 2 supply agencies recently- they have offered me £130 and £140. I'm a primary school teacher with 29 years of experience. I teach in Staffordshire . This is typical for my area.
