Anxious about occupational health

I just wanted to thank those who offered advice on how to prepare for an interview. I got the job.

I have proctitis which is very mild and causes very few issues if at all, if there are any symptoms it is managed easily with medication. I have been asked for a pre-employment telephone conversation with a nurse, I am assuming this is because of the proctitis which I declared in the occupational health questionnaire. I am worried this is going to be an issue when I have already handed in my notice in my current job role. Just to add, it has never caused any sick days at my previous role. I am really excited about my new job and worried this is going to stop me. Looking for reassurance that I am overthinking it and that it is just a formality.

I think this will be so that they can assess if they need to put any practical support in place for you or any adjustments you might need. Even if you don't need any, its making sure management understand your health condition and how best to support you if you do have any issues.

They would struggle to withdraw a job based on medical need. This would be discriminatory however I would flip it on its head and think of them as a proactive employer making sure they can offer you the best support

Please don't worry. You will not have your job offer withdrawn.

It is just to see if you need any support or adjustments. If you don't, great. If you do, they will help you to get them.

I have scoliosis so always have these conversations. Never been an issue but it has meant that reasonable accommodations can be made e.g. a parking space close to the door, not putting me on duty on the football pitch where I may get knocked etc.

Congratulations on your job! I hope you enjoy it 🙂
