Giving in Notice

Am I right in thinking that if I don't give in my notice on 31 October to leave at Christmas then the next time I can give Notice is at the end of February ?

I have an interview on the 31 October (typical!) and they are also interviewing the next day so if I was successful I would be too late?

It seems crazy that if I give notice on 1 November then I would have to stay til spring!

correct unless the HT agrees to release you early

Ask your headteacher if they would be kind enough to release you from your contract if you get the job on the 1st November. They will either say yes or no and then you know where you stand.

If the answer is yes, go to the interview and good luck. If they say no, there isn't any point going to interview, as you wouldn't be released until April 30th.

In the no scenario, explain to the school you're applying to before you withdraw. They know what the resignation dates are. It may be that if they like you enough that they don't want to lose out (and especially if they have more than one post to fill), they might offer on the 31st.
