Moving from school to 6th form college

Just wondering if anyone has moved from a school to a 6th form college (which as I’m UPS 3 would result in a pay cut). What are the benefits of working in a college? Do you do less contact time or not have a form? Or is it just less pay because you work with KS5? Thanks.

It will depend on the College! Check whether they're still on the red book. Many have become FE colleges, resulting in massive cuts to pay and conditions. Others have academised, and now do their own thing. So do check. In some Colleges all teachers are also personal tutors (basically it's having a tutor group whom you don't teach, as in school) and in others they don't. Some require you to provide enrichment opportunities, others don't.
If you thought school funding was bad, wait until you see Colleges. Workload is huge; everyone is an exam class and KA5 class sizes are larger in colleges - usually up to 24, so it's not like cosy school 6th form teaching as a respite from year 9

That said, though - I love the teaching.

Thanks for that. Definitely food for thought!
