Primary NQT year after 20 years

I got QTS roughly 20 years ago but life got in the way and never did my NQT year.

Is there any point starting volunteering etc to try to find a job? What's the market like for Primary class teachers in outer London?

The market is desperate, but I'd have thought schools would be nervous about the long gap since you qualified. Schools are also desperate for TAs though and you'll be snapped up for that, could be a good route back in.

Thanks very much for your reply @Restricting. I just wonder if schools would be hesitant to employ me as a teacher if they become used to me as a TA?

I guess it depends on the school, but at my school we employed a qualified teacher as a TA in march and she has a teacher job from September.

I did similar - QTS in 2011 and started back in education in 2018 once my children started fully time school.

I did start as an LSA, then HLTA and now I'm on my third year of teaching.

Good luck - it's crazy!!!!

Wow thanks so much for the positive stories @Restricting and @wineandsunshine . No excuse not to get my butt in gear then!
