Bank Holidays and 0.6 contract

Hi, I work 0.6. My days are Wed, Thurs and Fri. I have always just worked my days and felt a bit disgruntled on term time bank holidays. This year, with the extra bank holiday, I am wondering whether I should actually be entitled to some time off in lieu or extra pay for the missed bank holidays. Is there a definitive answer to this?

I'm not sure that there is an answer. I work 0.6, and have worked 0.8 in the past, but I've always worked Mondays and so it has always worked in my favour. Have you asked your HR what they think?

I mentioned it this year due to the number of bank holidays. I was given 0.6 for the Queen’s funeral and so imagine I will be given the equivalent time for the May Bank holidays. It’s quite uncomfortable asking the question I wish there was a policy in place.

In my previous primary school, I was given a day off in lieu for the Queen's jubilee. In my current primary school, they said I can have 0.6 of a day for the Queen's funeral, so I am assuming another 0.6 for the Kings coronation. I work Tues-Thurs.

Thank you. I will count up my days and then ask hr. I would have hoped that in a big mat hr would have been on to this and would have ready contacted me. Hey ho.

I got 'holiday pay' for the queens funeral and will for the coronation

It was nice surprise for the funeral but we've been told about it for the coronation.

Normal bank Holidays don't make any difference as it's usually 0.6/195 (117 days)

But now it's 0.6/193 (115.8)you should get TOIL or pay.

I think you should get 1.2 days pay to cover the funeral and the coronation (which tallies as it a 0.6 of a per extra BH!)

anyway knowledge is power!

I'm pt and they normally fall within school holidays but all the additional ones for the queen last year fell in term time. I emailed hr about it repeatedly and after the summer holidays we finally received an email saying that we would be paid for them as ft staff were getting an extra day of paid holiday.

Keep being persistent op. They should be paying you for the day not pro rata either.

(not a teacher) but I work 0.6. This means I am only entitled to 60% of the bank holidays, even though I always work on a Monday. The other 40% are taken out of my annual leave entitlement. So even though I have bank holidays "off", 40% of them are taken from my AL.

Thanks for the info everyone. After negotiations, I am getting a day off in. 🙂
