Saw this pop up on a friends Facebook. Thought it was so bad it was worth sharing www.tes.com/jobs/vacancy/assistant-headteacher-sheffield-1786164

Not a teacher - are other adverts like this? It’s an advert for an Apprentice candidate.

Purplesunflowers · 18/02/2023 19:00

Wow! That is spectacularly awful. I genuinely can’t imagine who in their right mind would read that & even consider applying. At least they’re being upfront in their expectations though I suppose! 😂

Postapocalypticcowgirl · 18/02/2023 19:06

It sounds pretty mad- I suppose, as has been said, at least they are being upfront about what they expect?

But yes, I can't imagine who reads that and goes yes, that's the job for me?

OutDamnedSpot · 18/02/2023 19:47

hahahha. I came on specifically to post the link. You beat me to it. Bonkers!

Oxterguff · 18/02/2023 21:21

Bloody hell! I predict that being readvertised in a few weeks! 😳😂

OutDamnedSpot · 18/02/2023 22:08

I bet it isn’t. That is very deliberately written so that it is widely shared (like we have) and that the ‘right’ people see it as a challenge and go for it. We all know the sort of people who will apply… 🙄

ilovesooty · 19/02/2023 01:19

I bet you're only allowed to "ooze leadership" if you don't challenge the HT.

And they won't want to employ a parent, a carer, anyone over 40 or anyone with a disability either.

Mossball · 19/02/2023 07:19

Is the timing of the advert deliberate it seems a tight timescale as if they already have a candidate? Everyone thought it was satire it's so bad.

Postapocalypticcowgirl · 19/02/2023 09:55

It's been so widely shared on twitter, I do wonder if the school will think it's good publicity.

It's a good point about having an internal candidate in mind - a good way to make sure no one else applies!

But I agree there are parts of that advert which are arguably discriminatory.

Shinyandnew1 · 19/02/2023 12:35

I wonder if anyone on here knows the school!?

The ad seems to be closed now-hopefully they’ve realised just how awful it was and how widely it’s been shared??

TheNefariousOrange · 19/02/2023 18:12

The job was posted on the 16th and closing date was the 17th. That's sus, as the kids would say

TortolaParadise · 19/02/2023 21:25

For L25+ maybe; but not for peanuts. I think they are looking for a robot!

echt · 20/02/2023 19:59

I see the add has attracted attention:

www.theguardian.com/education/2023/feb/20/sheffield-school-criticised-for-saying-job-applicants-must-be-wedded-to-role

The pay is shockingly bad. A top grade classroom teacher in Melbourne gets just about that, and more each year to 2025.

echt · 20/02/2023 19:59

Jesus. Ad.

OutDamnedSpot · 20/02/2023 20:11

It’s gone now. what was the pay?

echt · 20/02/2023 20:50

£62,561.00.

Bloody peanuts.

echt · 20/02/2023 20:51

Sorry, that should be "up to" that pay level.

calimali · 20/02/2023 20:58

Sadly I have known people who would have applied for that. Deluded greasy pole climbers with more ambition than talent. There are wannabe apprentice candidates in may schools.

They will learn, but in the process they wipe out the careers of older, wiser teachers. I have seen it happen too many times.

TortolaParadise · 20/02/2023 22:21

Yes. More ambition than talent. That is exactly the phrase I have been looking for. Thank you.

Mumwithbaggage · 21/02/2023 19:20

How bad was the grammar on that advert? The headteacher signed himself Mr A Bum on the letter to applicants and he looks like an ex footballer. Glad I'm at the other end of my career!
